Osteopathic Philosophy

As an Osteopath I am first searching for physiological imperfections of any form. I first need to find the key lesion, then fix it and allow the body to heal. Sometimes adjusting the osseous frame work is the first rule of treatment, sometimes it is releasing the facia. Both of these modalities allow the arteries to deliver blood to nourish the organs and bodily tissues as well and allowing the veins to carry away all the impurities. These modalities also release the nerves to be free and unobstructed permitting the pulsating powers of life.

Every person is different. As unique as their DNA. I will ask many questions to knit together your story which, then, often leads to the correct and individualized treatment plan. I wish I could say that one Osteopathic treatment will cure all, and sometimes that is the case, but that is not the rule. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss if Osteopathy is the right treatment for you.

Cranial Osteopathy

Unless you have experienced it, it's hard to explain. Cranial Osteopaths use a highly trained sense of touch to feel subtle changes of tension and tissue quality in the living anatomy of the whole body, and to diagnose areas of strain or dysfunction. Some of my collegues have referred to it as "weird", and it is often considered "alternative", but I disagree. There are specific diagnoses I have treated such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome that have respond very well to Cranial Osteopathy.

Not many Osteopaths utilize this technique because it is not easy to understand or master, I was drawn to this modality because of the results I witnessed and continue to experience. I do not use Cranial Osteopathy on every patient I treat, it is one way to achieve a patients health goals and depends completely on the patients symptoms and complexity of the diagnosis. Contact me if you would like to discuss if this will help you.

What is Osteopathic Medicine?

Imagine an internet search for a physician, pages and pages of qualified physicians at your fingertips and you notice that some physicians have M.D. after their name while a few others have D.O. What is the difference? M.D. stands for Medical Doctor while D.O. stands for Doctor of Osteopathy. Some would say there is no difference when it comes to practicing conventional medicine, there are M.D.'s and D.O.'s who practice in all specialities. We are all trained to practice medicine in the traditional western sense, but D.O.'s (Doctors of Osteopathy) are trained to look at the structure of the human body effecting the function and we practice manual techniques developed over 150 years ago to heal the body. Not every D.O. practices the techniques developed by the founder of Osteopathic Medicine; A.T. Still M.D. D.O. It is estimated that only 6% of all D.O.'s practice the manual medicine of Osteopathy. I have been practicing Osteopathy since 2006 and there isn't a year that goes by that I don't learn something new to add to my skills. I attend yearly conferences and continue to utilize techniques such as; Cranial Osteopathy, Myofascial Release along with The Fascial Distortion Model, Counterstrain, Muscle Energy, HVLA, Still Techniques, Visceral Manipulation, and Mitchel Techniques to seek out the key lesion causing dysfunction in order to restore optimal function to the body.
